The fotodiox pro adapters are much better!

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com Caleb Pike

I bet they are. But the price per lens is killing me!

  • http://www.bechbox.dk Mikkel Bech

I have the cheap ones from Fotodiox and they work fine with my Nikkor 28mm and 35mm primes. They fit real tight too

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com Caleb Pike

I am sure it does. But for whatever reason mine would not comply.

iv’e been using the el cheapo fotodiox adapter for about a year and a half i just started getting some play in it last week but all i had to do was use a small jewlers screwdriver and tightened up the screws and no more play in the fit. i had a bunch of nikon lenses from my micro redrock/hvx setup so when i switched to canon hdslr’s i found the fotodiox adapters and was able to still use my nikon lens investment. 2 thumbs up from me to the fotodiox adapters ;)

    Thanks Chris,

I have no doubt they rock and work well. But for whatever reason this one didn’t for me. Don’t get me wrong, I will keep using Fotodiox products (one on its way here now) its just I like the fit of the Cinevate ones.

Fotodiox adaptors works perfect for me…!!!

  • Mike

    Hey Caleb,

First of all, I’d like to thank you for sharing all this great information. Your articles and videos have been really helpful.

I’m looking into buying the Canon 60D and was wondering what you would recommend as far as lens choice? I’m primarily plan on doing video work, but would also like to do some photography. Should I opt NOT to get the kit lens and put the $300 dollars I’d save towards a couple of speedy primes? Right now I’m considering the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 (a friggin’ steal at $99 dollars!) and a Nikon 20 or 24 or 28mm prime w/adapter. I’m just afraid I might screw myself by not having the versatility of a zoom lens (the range & autofocus) – but I’m thinking the quality of the kit lens may be so poor that I never even want to use it? From your experiences, what do you think? Also, how wide of a lens could I (would I want to) go before experiencing noticeable vignetting/distortion/soft image? Any advice is appreciated… my head is spinning from all of these decisions.

@Mike, Sorry for the late response! If you can move around get some primes to play with. If you are doing weddings and the like, best the find a fast zoom.

Another option are M43 lenses (screw mounts) with a simple thread adapter. Same low prices as the FD lenses or the Nikon glass – but with no stop loss or focal aberrations. Have bought a number of them and highly recommend.

  • Brian Wallace

Is there any stop loss or crop factor in using these adapters like there is when using an FD to EF adapter? I’m looking at a old Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 on eBay.

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com calebpike

Nope. They are 35mm lenses so no funky crop/light loss.

  • Srouse2822

Great little video….Looks like it will be Cinevate for me as well. Wanted to ask about infinity of focus. Does this adapter provide true infinity of focus?

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com calebpike

Works fine for me. I have since used several different brands and the Fotodiox has worked well for me. Turns out the reason it didn’t work for me was I was using a Nikkor S lens. But Cinevate took that into account when they designed their adapter.

  • Guest

This doesn’t work the other way, does it?

I shoot Nikon and would love to experiment with those dirt cheap Canon lenses. Might have to get an entry level Canon just to have access to that.

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com calebpike

I am afraid it does not work. Only Nikon to Canon.

  • Caleb MacDonald

    Mike,

Wondered if you bought any of the ‘wide angle’ Nikon primes for your 60D? I’m looking at a non-AI 24mm but have heard rumours they don’t work with the adapters on a Canon. Any insight?

    Cheers, Caleb

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com calebpike

Hmm. I have not used that lens. I did have a problem with a 35mm Non-AI once. But the Cinevate adapter worked perfect for it. I would go for the lens and get an adapter. If it does not work get the cinevate adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005167P92/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=tecbri-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005167P92
and see if that works for you.

Thanks for the information Brother. I just got the Nikon to Canon Cinevate adapter in today. I got the adapter ring, as you mentioned it was a tight fit, and mounted to lens (snug fit), then with my sweet Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4G..I tried to use it (the Canon did not even recognize it. It’s a Rebel T3i. Is there something I am missing? Thanks in advance for the help!

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com calebpike

Unfortunately you can’t use auto focus Nikon lenses on canons. Well, you can, but you won’t be able to adjust aperture unless the lens has an aperture ring. Thats why I recommend the older manual Nikkor lenses.

  • GuyNamedChad

Thank you for your reply Caleb. That sucks man! So, for the SLR Vintage lenses is it a different Adapter entirely? Or the Cinevate should be good?

Hi!! thanks for your video!! But i have a question!

i have a Digital SLR Canon 60D and i have a Nikkon digital lens it’s a 55 – 200 and it’s a AF – S DX NIKKOR. Is there any adaptor i can find to use it on my Canon? Does the cinevate adapter works?

Thank you very much!!! i really don’t know what to do!

I am having trouble with getting an end cap for the Fotodiox Nikkor to Canon Camera adapters. I have tried the Fotodiox brand cap and that didnt work, as well as one from Adorama.

Do you have a fail safe end cap that you could provide a link to?

    Thanks
