Very cool. Been in the market for something like this recently.

Hey Caleb, useful stuff as always! Really like your new intro and lower third design. Cinema 4D or something similar?
Shared your video, keep ‘em coming!

Coincidentally, mine arrived this morning, just before I saw your post. It’s really solidly built! I’m going to create some kind of smooth connector between two 8′ 2×4′s, screw a Manfrotto QR plate into the far ends and into the connector. I’ll be able to carry the two 8-footers inside my Prius and hook ‘em to three tripods for a long ramp even over gravel or shrubbery.

Stop finding all these amazing products, I’m going broke! Thanks for the tip, just ordered mine!

Thanks for the great review. Caleb’s also correct in that I am an awesome guy.
And I’m actually currently working on some extensions to double the width of the chassis so you can use it on wider surfaces, or a ladder. Actually, it’s not so hard, just couple coupling nuts and more threaded rod, but I’m working with a couple different configurations to make sure it’s doable in the field without tools. I also got some samples of some very cool “cheeseplate” style decks from my UPS guy today. They’re not cheap, but I think they might make a nice upgrade for the “Cinemover Pro” which may or may not ever exist.

Actually, I know one will exist, because it will be the grand prize in the contest. you heard it here first. Grand prize will be a compete Cinemover, with all the hardware that was too expensive or elaborate to make it on to the production model. Photos coming soon. I should be announcing a closing date for the contest soon as well. And maybe, just maybe, that Cinemover will come complete with a magic arm or a ball head. We’ll see. Depends on how many entries we get.

Got mine on Monday. I love this thing! Great review Caleb.

Well, that certainly emptied out my garage quickly. If you ordered one before about 6pm today, it’ll be shipped by Friday for sure. After that, I’m on hold for a few days waiting for wheels and bearings. I have plenty of chassis parts, so once they get here it’s just a matter of final assembly and boxing them and letting them out the door. So if you’re in that “just missed” group, fear not, for it won’t be long.

FYI, that group will have about two dozen units built from it, and I’ll order more mats at the first of the week so they’ll be here by the weekend, so when those 24 go, the next ones will be right in line for assembly.

Thanks so much for all the support everyone.

Great find Caleb, will def be picking up one of these when the chasis is expanded. I’m starting to spend more money on the accessories you’ve posted than the camera itself!

  • Steve M,

Ordered mine today! J.G. is a crack up, really enjoyed visiting his website and watching his videos.
Looking forward to using this, thank you J.G. & Caleb!

My favorite J.G. quote is the homeless guys fighting over a ham sandwich one.

  • Steve M.

That is a good one! I’ve emailed him and he is a super nice guy. I told him I spit out my drink on the “tips video” quote: “I have no friends” He is classic!

  • Dansabsay

Hey, if you’re recycling your indi slider, could i have it? :)

  • Eugene

I got mine today, and I actually would like to get a model where you can decrease the width of the chassis by at least 2cm. so that i can move it on a small spirit level, usually people do not carry with them fence poles or ladders…

I might give it away in a contest, who knows?

  • Caius

what kind of tripod head or fluid head do you need for this?

  • JG Pasterjak

I use a Fancier 717AH, and like it quite a bit. I’ve had several customers tell me they really like the Manfrotto 501 and 701 as well (and the 501s currently have some killer rebate deals). My current favorite head is my Opteka Sidewinder pistol grip ball head. So much versatility for under $30. A magic arm also works awesome with a point and shoot camera. The key to any head is you have to remember the Cinemover has a flat deck, so no ball-style heads.

Or another one I have been using is this $65 one: http://tinyurl.com/3syptra really smooth.

Can you use steel round pipe with this?  Schedule 80 type?  Or only square?

  • Frank Philip

What’s the smallest distance between the wheels?

  • http://dslrvideoshooter.com calebpike

I don’t have mine with me at the moment, those would be a great questions for J.G.

  • Teuvo9

Loved the video and just ordered the Cinemover! Caleb I’m kinda new to shooting video and was wondering how you got the look for the footage at McDonald’s? Thank you for any information. You can read all day but first hand advice always seems to be the best.

I used Davinci Resolve. Its a fairly complicated grading tool. But you could get similar results using Red Giant’s Colorista II.
