I work very hard to produce quality content for my viewers and readers. After a year of zero income I started working on ways to get paid for my time and work. I work hard to keep advertising relationships separate from the content of this site. My goal has always been to produce purely objective reviews and tutorials and I am very proud that I’ve been able to do that. The gear I praise on this site is what I use in production or recommend for people in related fields (wedding photography, sports etc).
I’ve decided to put these disclosures together since the FTC requires a full disclosure listing “material connection” (See FTC 16 CFR Part 255) and frankly, I’m tired of people accusing me of paid reviews.
Since affiliate and advertising relationships come and go, I am keeping all this information in one, up to date list. Below you will find a list of all material connections and an affiliate/advertising FAQ.
Ads: These are advertisements that have been paid for in the side bar and other areas of the site. On occasion, ads will be seen in Youtube videos. These are run through Google’s Adsense and are not chosen by DSLR Video Shooter, but randomly by the Google gods. Google targets ads using the information they find on the site as well as information from your browsers history.
Affiliates Links: In posts you will come across many affiliate links. These links are only related to the review of article written, so you won’t find spam links (unless we’ve been hacked). For example, if you come across an Amazon or B&H Photo Video link, it is most likely an affiliate link. If you purchase something from that link, DSLR Video Shooter will get a small commission with no extra cost to you. Affiliates have been chosen because we believe in the store or the manufacturer. You won’t find affiliate links to gear we don’t believe in or use. That said, not all links to gear on this site are affiliate links. We find tons of great stuff and write about it regardless of whither or not it has an affiliate attached. Affiliate links keep this site running and without them there would be no DSLR Video Shooter.
Here is a list of our Affiliates:
- B&H Photo Video
- F&V Lighting
Free Stuff: Every once and a while we are sent free stuff (whether we want it or not sometimes which can be interesting). Whenever this happens we let the company/individual know that we won’t be holding back any punches and will remain objective. When we receive an item and aren’t asked to send it back, we disclose that information in that post.
Do you get paid for reviews?
We do not, and never will accept payment for reviews.
Do you get to keep the gear you review?
Most often not. Almost everything you see reviewed on this site is from B&H and we have 30 days to review the gear and then we have to ship it back. However, smaller outfits often send gear in (small rig, on camera light etc) and don’t want it back because of shipping and fees. When this happens, we either run a giveaway on the site, or we disclose that information in the post.
How did you get your cameras and lenses?
Every camera and lens I own I bought.
