Episode 30: Micro Muffs For DSLR Microphones

September 15, 2011 by Caleb Pike —

I had a chance to review the cute little Micro Muff from www.Micromuff.com. Its a great idea for those using the built in microphone on the AGC enabled DSLRs outdoors. Its totally worth the price and can actually make the on camera microphone somewhat useable again.

if you don’t shoot outdoors much, or use an external microphone this obviously isn’t a necessary buy.

Do they work? Yes but they aren’t invincible. I tested it in front of a fan blasting the camera set on high. You can hear there is still some flutter noise, but this was an extreme test. Watch the video below after the podcast to see a more realistic world test.

Very helpful in the pursuit for better audio on our DSLRs. It’s a big challenge shooting video with the factory mic when it’s frequently windy. Thank you!
