Run and Gun Audio Safety Track Adapter (Attenuator) for Video Cameras

August 16, 2016 by Caleb Pike —

With this easy to make device, you’re right audio channel will be 18db lower than the left channel, giving you a safety track! This way you’re audio won’t peak or distort!

This attenuator we’re making is perfect for run and gun filming situations. If your audio peaks or distorts, you have the -18db track to use. This makes setting levels easier knowing we have two different audio levels to work with.

Parts Needed

  • 1K Ohm Resistor
    • Amazon
    • eBay
  • 150 Ohm Resistor
    • Amazon
    • eBay
  •  2x 3.5mm Female jacks
    • Amazon
    • You can use any stereo connector (male, female, XLR etc).
  •  A Pen or similarly sized cylinder.

There is another video that really helped me when I was trying to figure this attenuator out. You can check the video out here.
