Supporting the sensor is one of the best ways to get that “film look” everyone is talking about. Stop using a body and lens combo and get some weight on your rig. You’ll be amazed by the difference it makes.
Ways to Better Support Your Sensor
Here are a few ways you can support your sensor using gear.
1. Get a Tripod
This is the cheapest way to get your sensor supported. I have a list of tripods I recommend in my Gear Guide.
2. Get Stabilized Lenses
I don’t always shoot camera and lens only, but when I do, I use a lens with stabilization. There are several brands with stabilized lenses. Tamron’s VC (Vibration Control) lenses, Canon’s IS (Image Stabilization) lenses and Sigma’s OS (Optical Stabilization) lenses to name a few. You can find a few of these lenses in my Gear Guide.
3. Use a Rig
Using a rig with some weight (like the one in my video) will give you a lot of support for your sensor. Check out the rigs and cages I recommend in my Gear Guide.
